SIPLADUR

If PLA were sustainable!

GreenWin presents SIPLADUR :

FUTERRO, Europe's leading producer of Poly Lactic Acid (PLA), is launching the SIPLADUR project in partnership with VALORE, OTC, MATERIA NOVA and UMONS, following a call for projects from the GreenWin cluster.

The aim of this project is to develop new PLA grades with high performance and durability for electrotechnical applications that can be fully industrialised in Wallonia. Thanks to this FUTERRO-supported project, a new value chain can be developed around biobased polymer materials in the Walloon Region, from the producer of biobased materials right through to the end user. PLA is a polymer derived entirely from renewable resources that may be non-GMO, such as sugar beet. This renewable origin, as well as its biodegradability and its possible integration into recycling channels, make it an ideal candidate for replacing traditional polymers in the world of technical food packaging, but also for sustainable applications (electronics or automotive sector) in order to offer alternative solutions with a considerably reduced environmental impact.

Project supported by the following consortium:

  • Project sponsor: TOTAL
  • The company: Futerro; OTC; Valoré
  • CRA: Materia Nova
  • Universities and Higher Education Institutions UMons
