Conferences on Green Chemistry and White Biotechnologies

These conferences aim to

  • Take stock of the innovative technologies being used to galvanise activities in green chemistry and white biotechnology around the world
  • Promote the sharing of knowledge
  • Encourage the creation of new R&D projects involving the world of academia and those directly playing a major role in the sector.

Green chemistry plays an important role in the evolution of industry, particularly in the use of resources of plant origin, one of the foundations of the ‘green chemistry’ concept. Many green chemistry processes use white biotechnology techniques, and the importance of this technological synergy will be highlighted in the context of the industry and factories of the future.

Biotechnology is a way of using biomass or biomass waste in a renewable way to produce high value-added molecules for a range of applications, from pharmaceuticals and food to cosmetics, plastics, materials and energy.

For many years, our universities and research centres have been honing their expertise in the fields of microbial biotechnology, from basic laboratory manipulation to industrial applications. These initiatives have led to the development of new materials (biomaterials) and biotechnological processes, based for example on the use of renewable raw materials that will replace or complement certain processes.

During the two days reserved for conferences, presentations will illustrate the innovative applications in progress, as well as the expertise of various Belgian and international academics. At the end of each conference day, a round-table discussion with the speakers will give participants the opportunity to ask their questions.

Participants are also invited to take part in networking sessions during breaks or at the match-making event.
