How can data mining be a tool to successfully position your green tech application? To find out, meet Sergio MARTINEZ VILLAREAL from ULiège's Gembloux Agro-Biotech

The 8th edition of the International Conferences on Green Chemistry and White Biotechnologies , will eventually take place on 28 & 29 september 2022. It will be dedicated to “Digital Transformation: Innovation booster for Green Chemistry and White Biotechs”. They will be held at the Sart-Tilman University Campus, under the auspices of ULiège.

Developing sustainable and cleaner applications often leads to the analysis of data intrinsic to the process in question. It allows identifying key performance indicators (KPI), crucial input variables and therefore, to enhance the performance and economics of a given technology. However, it is very common to get lost in the vast amount of information available, which does not enable to take full advantage of the existing data. During the presentation, the potential of data mining as a tool to position and enhancing technologies related to the green chemistry and biotechnology sectors is addressed, highlighting its main advantages. As an example, data mining applied to the research for biofuel production from biomass is presented.

Sergio MARTÍNEZ VILLAREAL is a 28 years old PhD student from Colombia, currently researching the biofuel production at Gembloux Agro-bio Tech/University of Liege, in Belgium.
Bachelor in chemical engineering from the Industrial University of Santander (UIS, Colombia) and holder of a master’s degree in process and bioprocess engineering from the University Claude-Bernard Lyon 1 (France).
Experience on simulation, modelling and techno-economic analysis of biorefineries, obtained during his academic background. In the same way, he has worked in the Colombian palm oil sector doing R&D for biodiesel purification treatments and quality control for the crude palm oil extraction processes.
Recently engaged with researching the advanced biofuel production from microalgae, which is the center of his PhD thesis.

About the Conferences…

The purpose of the conferences is to screen the digital technology used to boost activities in the fields of green chemistry and white biotechnology around the world, to share knowledge and encourage the creation of new R&D projects in the sector at regional and international scale.

The first day, on 28 September, will focus on Digital Transition while the second one, on 29 September, will focus on Artificial Intelligence. Both days will be animated by Tieneke Van Hooland, from Bio.be by essenscia.
