The business world

Since 2000, the business activities encompassed within the cluster have generated a 12% increase in job creation, more than the rest of the economy combined.

These activities account for:

  • 430,000 jobs in Wallonia and Brussels.
  • The production of nearly 5% of the region’s total added value, an increase of 25% since 2000.
  • Exports representing over 25% of the total for the economy as a whole, up 41% since 2000.
  • Nearly three times as many patents registered (per million inhabitants) than the average for the economy as a whole.

As of 2011 the cluster has more than 100 members. Sixty of them are companies, including several world leaders. Its corporate members account for:

  • 38% of jobs in industries covered by the cluster.
  • 18% of companies in these industries.

The world of research

The cluster’s members have more than 1,000 researchers in total:

  • Some 900 of them are employed by 140 university services.
  • The remaining 100 work at 15 industrial research centres.

The world of training

GreenWin brings together all the universities and advanced educational institutions offering courses relating to the environment, as well as six professional training stakeholders. Together they offer 31 initial training courses specific to the cluster’s specialist fields and around 100 specific continuous training programmes.
